Tax Preparation & FAFSA
A few weeks
ago we sent out a broadcast on filing your 2012 tax return. This is a reminder
for those of you who need to file, that taxes are due April 15th.
You likely qualify to get your taxes done for free in February and March if you
make less than $51,000. To find a site near you that is offering free tax
preparation, call 1-800-906-9887.
If you’re
interested in attending college or a career school, FAFSA, or the Free
Application of Student Aid is an important application to fill out in order to
see if you qualify for grants, loans, and work-study to help pay for it.
Federal Student Aid is a part of the U.S. Department of Education and is the
largest provider of student financial aid in the nation. Many universities and
colleges across the country have deadlines for their FAFSA applications,
typically in February, so act quickly. In order to complete your 2013 FAFSA you
will need information from your 2012 tax return; if you haven’t filed yet it is
still important to fill out a FAFSA by your colleges’ deadline. You can do this
by entering in your 2011 tax information and choosing the “will file” option.
By doing this you hold your position in line to possibly receive financial aid.
If you need
help with filling out your FAFSA, a program called College Goal Sunday may be
able to help you. To find out, visit www.collegegoalsundayusa.org
